HOW TO KEEP YOUR APARTMENT BALCONY CLEAN YEAR ROUND

Patio Clean.JPG

You guys loved seeing my most recent patio update! I really wish I did a whole patio update sooner. Let me tell you it is getting too hot to even be out there! Your biggest response on the patio post was how to keep it clean year round. I have to tell you, this has been a learning process for me too! It has especially been difficult to keep it clean because we live in an apartment, and can’t get any sort of lawn work done to it for us. Here is what we’ve learned over the last two years of having furniture on our apartment balcony.

RENT A LEAF BLOWER ONCE EVERY SEASON

This was seriously the best thing we ever did for our balcony. Over the winter season our balcony got COVERED in cobwebs. Almost to the point where I was too grossed out to go out there. I was thinking of ways to get rid of these cobwebs, and was honestly stumped. I didn’t want to vacuums them up, and I didn’t want to try and get them with a stick. Matt reminded me that Home Depot has an equipment rental program, and that we should just rent a leaf blower!

DUH!!! I’m not sure how I never thought of this, but getting this leaf blower was life changing. We rented this for $15 for 4 hours (you can also do $25 for a whole 24 hour). Make sure you wear a mask and some sunglasses/protective eyewear before you start. Trust me here, if you live in the south like me you’ll see so much pollen blow up! Blowing off our patio only too, about 10 minutes, but it was as good as new! If you really want to get super clean, make sure you lift up any carpet or furniture you have!

I’m honestly so embarrassed about the before picture! But wow, what a difference!!!

KEEP YOUR FURNITURE COVERED

I know it isn’t as nice to look at a covered up piece of furniture, but trust me here. Keeping your furniture covered when you’re not using it will keep your outdoor furniture clean all year round. This will also make sure your furniture doesn’t rust, grow any mold, or start to rot. We keep our settee covered all year round and it has stood up against the test of time! We’ve had it for 2 years and it still looks great!

Your outdoor furniture should either come with a cover, or you can buy one from the same manufacturer. Go ahead and spend that extra $25 to keep your furniture for twice the amount of time.

MOVE ALL PILLOWS AND LOOSE ITEMS INSIDE

Again, I hear you, it’s not as cute to look at a bare patio all day. The same reasoning goes here for keeping your furniture covered! Most outdoor pillows and accessories are not meant to stay out in the elements 24/7. If you leave them out in in the elements all the time expect for them to get covered in pollen, grow mold, or even start to decay. If you’re cool with that and want to keep your patio styled all the time go right ahead! Just keep in mind that all of your pieces won’t last nearly as long!

All of these items pictured above get taken inside and put in our second closet! It also is a great peace of mind knowing that I won’t have anything blow away in a storm!
