The Easiest Way to Enhance Your Existing Lighting
Here at Snow Studio, our mission is to impart design styles and techniques, focusing on elevating what you already possess rather than urging you to acquire more. That's why I'm excited to unveil some ingenious hacks for upgrading your current lighting fixtures.
One of the simplest yet most impactful hacks I've come across is the art of reimagining your existing lighting is to update the lampshade. Were you aware that lampshades can be purchased separately from the lamp itself? It's true, and it presents an incredibly cost-effective means to completely transform the ambiance of your space.
The array of options for lampshades is vast, catering to diverse tastes and preferences. Below are some of the categories I personally favor:

Pleated lampshades are enjoying a surge in popularity, and for good reason. They effortlessly introduce texture and visual interest to an otherwise plain lamp. Consider, for instance, the expandable pleated shade I sourced from Etsy, which worked wonders in revitalizing my desk lamp. Just take a look at the striking difference in this before-and-after showcase:

TAPERED

For a touch of modernity and sophistication, tapered lampshades are an excellent choice. Recently, I undertook a budget-friendly upgrade by acquiring spun wood lamps from Walmart at a mere $10 each, then complementing them with tapered shades for an additional $10. The result? A stunning resemblance to pricier versions found at CB2 and Target. You can also infuse a hint of texture, such as raffia or seagrass, with tapered lampshades. For a more modern look, try swapping your linen shade with a polished metal shade.

If you're aiming to inject some personality and visual intrigue into your space, patterned and/or colored lampshades are the way to go. Modern iterations of patterned and colored shades dispel any notion of being outdated, offering a plethora of vibrant and contemporary options. In my opinion, patterned shades are the most unexpected and unique option!
