3 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR NEW YEAR'S EVE FEEL SPECIAL FROM HOME
This year will be my first New Year’s Eve spent at home in as long as I can remember. This is actually one of my favorite holidays…getting dressed up, going out with friends, and then coming home with the promise of a new year ahead of you. However, this year I will be spending my holiday at home with Matt and my parents (yes, we’ve been quarantining leading up to seeing them). Instead of missing out on all the festivities from home, I’ve decided to bring the festivities to us!
| HERE ARE THE THREE THINGS WE’LL BE DOING TO MAKE THIS HOLIDAY AT HOME ANYTHING BUT BORING |
Getting Dressed Up
Just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you have to stay in your usual sweatsuit attire. I asked my family if we could get dressed up like we were going out to make the night feel a little more special. The up-side of this? You don’t have to wear those really cute (but super painful) heels all night.
Using the fancy stuff - and I mean the China
Not only are we getting dressed up to stay in, we’re also dressing the table up too. My dad has planning this big meal for us to eat and it just feels right to serve it on some nicer tableware than the everyday plates. I’m working on creating a floral centerpiece that will help the table feel more festive.
I told my parents to treat the night like you’re going to a dinner party with the best guests, except the dinner party is right in the dining room!
Don’t have a dining room? We don’t either at our place. Check out this blog post for how we host a dinner party without a formal dining room.
Tips that keep the night going
I don’t know about you, but I always feel like we finish dinner so quickly when we eat at home. To remedy this for this holiday, we’re trying to pace the portions of our meals. We’ll be having a happy hour, then the main course, then a desert drink paired with a dessert. Hopefully we can span this over a couple of hours to make sure we make it till midnight.
The other thing we’ll be doing is playing some board games after dinner. My favorite ones to play with the family are Settlers of Catan, We’re Not really Strangers, and Betrayal at House on the Hill.
WHATEVER YOU END UP DOING THIS NEW YEAR’S EVE, I CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR FOLLOWING ALONG THROUGHOUT THIS CRAZY YEAR. MAY 2021 BRING US MORE JOY, HAPPINESS, AND HEALTH
