OUR PLAN TO RE-STYLE OUR APARTMENT OFFICE

OUR PLAN TO CreatE

a Vinate, Collected, and Minimal

Styled Office

When we first moved in together, we really just threw our furniture together and called it a day. Over the years, I’ve worked to make the best of what we have while also upgrading and restyling almost every room in our home. Over the last year I’ve been scheming up a new plan for our office. I want it to feel more curated, collected, and minimal. Recently we inherited amazing pieces from Matt’s grandfather that turned out to be the perfect kickstarter for this vintage minimal office re-design.

The Current Office Situation

The current design for the office is very modern and full of IKEA furniture. You can check it out here. While this design served us well for couple of years, I definitely feel the need to switch things up. The pieces we are inheriting from Matt’s grandad are beautiful transitional pieces. We are getting a white oak solid wood kidney shaped desk, a copper bookshelf, and a white oak and rattan side chair. All these pieces have such amazing history and heritage so I know I’ll need to pay respect to this with whatever redesign we do.

One other element I wanted to be sure to incorporate was our new neon sign from yellowpop. We got this for our engagement party and I knew it needed a permanent place to hang in our home!

Our Current Minimal Office Design

our solution to make our office more productive during quarantine!

Lessons Learned with our Current Office

One of the major things I learned in our current office is that less is more. In a space where we are creating lots of new ideas I want the new office design to feel less cluttered and more organized. This doesn’t mean it will feel bare, I just want it to feel more stylized and paired back. In our new design we will still have some open shelving that will be styled, but we will only have one bookshelf instead of two.

The second thing I want to remedy in our office is having proportionally scaled pieces. My current desk is really large and kind of overbearing with a really small rug. My plan for our new design is to get a much larger rug, use the smaller scaled kidney bean shaped desk, with a really large format art piece on the wall above. If we were’t renting I would love to add wall covering to the office. Instead, I’ll be playing with scale of our artwork pieces to give an illusion of wall covering or a tapestry look.

The New Design Inspiration

This new office design will pair the timeless, traditional furniture pieces we are inheriting with large scale artwork, minimally styled shelves, and a new large tapestry piece over the desk. I’m so excited to start re-styling our office into a space that will feel more curated, full of character, and productive.
